About our work: Helping Angels Charitable Association
Posted 28th June 2021
We are delighted to have been able to provide vital support to so many charities during the pandemic. Helping Angels Charitable Association are a friendly, high quality, personal assistant service who work with local people with physical, cognitive or age-related conditions who need support with daily tasks, domestic routines, and support them with building social relationships and participating fully within the community.
Like many charities Helping Angels were really struggling financially during lockdown. They almost gave up and considered closing the charity altogether, but they were doing so much to support local people, this would have been devastating.
Luckily the charity came to Support Staffordshire for assistance and we helped them to apply for some funding. Not only were they successful, they received a large sum from The National Lottery which enabled them to employ 3 full time staff!.
Those people in our community would have been left without their vital personal assistant support, had Helping Angels not come to us for help.
Natasha Gratton, CEO of Helping Angels said “We would like to say a huge thank you to Support Staffordshire! When the pandemic hit last year we didn’t know where to look for support. We knew we needed to adapt for our members and support them but didn’t know where or when that funding would come in. We worked closely with Support Staffs at this time to look at local organisational funders and they supported me to complete a number of applications. Thanks to Support Staffordshire we managed to support our members when they needed us most”.
We need to be able to continue to provide our vital support to charities like Helping Angels so that they can continue to provide their valuable services to our community.
Become a partner of Support Staffordshire and YOU can help us achieve just that!

Make A Will to Help Your Family and Support Staffordshire
Posted 25th June 2021
Many people throughout their life donate to a charity that has a special meaning to them. However very few consider leaving them a gift after they have died. A legacy (financial gift) to a charity is your way of showing your support to that cause after your death. This is a vital source of income for the charity so that they can continue the work that was important to you during your life. Indeed, without the gifts left in Wills many charities wouldn’t even exist.
74% of people in the UK support charities financially during their lifetime however only 7% actually leave a legacy in their Wills. It is estimated that if only 4% more people left charitable legacies in their Wills, this would generate an addition £1 billion for good causes in the UK every year.
Furthermore, any gift to a charity you make in your Will does not attract Inheritance Tax therefore it reduces the amount of your estate may have to pay to HMRC. In fact if you leave 10% or more of your estate to Charity it reduces the tax rate you may need to pay on your estate from 40% to 36%.
Therefore, remember the cause that has been important to you in your life so that they can continue their good work after your death.
In order to help this to happen we at Support Staffordshire are very pleased to announce that we have developed a professional partnership with Deedsafe Wills & Legal Services to help us raise much needed funds to carry on our work.
How does it work? If a supporter of ours has their Will written by Deedsafe Wills they will donate 20% of the cost of the Will directly to the us. Furthermore, as a supporter you will also receive a 5% discount off the cost of your Will.
Who are Deedsafe Wills & Legal Services? They are full members of the Institute of Professional Willwriters, they adhere to a code of conduct laid out by the Trading Standards Institute (formerly known as the Office of Fair Trading) and operate on a fixed fee basis not on an hourly rate so you know exactly how much you will pay before they start any work on your behalf. Furthermore, Deedsafe work on a home visit (or video call) basis so they shall come to you at a time to suit you even if it is on an evening or over the weekend.
If you have any queries or would like to book an appointment, please telephone Deedsafe Wiils & Legal Services on 01743 233 245 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org quoting the reference “Support Staffs” to receive your discount.

We are delighted to have received a £500 donation recently from TopCashback Stafford in support of a member bursary! This will mean that a local charity will receive an extra 10 hours support from Support Staffordshire this year which will empower them to be the best they can be and enrich our community. Michelle Colclough, Internal Events Manager at TopCashback said “Since we began 16 years ago, we have tried to live by our fairplay philosophy, which means always trying to do the right thing and with fairness in mind.
Thus, we are delighted to be teaming up with Support Staffordshire to provide support to volunteers and VCSE organisations. We hope the support we can provide will help develop knowledge and confidence to volunteers and VCSE organisations to provide the best service possible to the people they support.
Being able to support organisations giving back to the community is something we all take pride in at TopCashback and value highly.”
Thank you so much to Michelle and the team!

Volunteer Star Award Success
Posted 18th June 2021
So every year, to mark National Volunteers’ week, we at Support Staffordshire always hold our prestigious Volunteer Star Awards ceremonies. These events, hosted across the county, are our way of saying thanks for the contribution hundreds of people make in our community through volunteering. Sadly, we had to cancel last year’s events due to the pandemic, but, this year we decided “the show must go on” and we held 4 online events, live via YouTube! Hundreds of people tuned in to watch what really were such heart-warming events, recognising so many amazing volunteers who have worked tirelessly and selflessly to help others during the pandemic. From businesses giving their time or resources to support food banks, teams of people delivering the COVID vaccine, giving out food parcels at Christmas, and supporting young people by keeping Scout groups and gymnastics clubs connected, there were tales from so many people who really have gone above and beyond to help and support others.
We’d really like to thank our many sponsors who’s generous contributions meant that we could press on and organise these events virtually, helping to cover our costs and really make a fuss of those special people. Next year, we really hope to return to in-person events, and will be actively looking again for local businesses to be part of it!
So, if you would like to help us to present some amazing people with an award, whilst elevating your brand and networking with other local businesses – get in touch now! email@example.com
