Social Prescribing Community Buddies

Support Staffordshire works with a number of Primary Care Networks (PCN) across Staffordshire to deliver a Social Prescribing service to patients.

Social Prescribing is a way of enabling GPs and other healthcare professionals to connect patients to community activities, networks and non – clinical services that can help to meet their social, emotional or practical needs; with the help of a Social Prescribing Link Worker.  To support the Link Workers with their role, Support Staffordshire recruit ‘Community Buddies’ to help support patients in their community.

Meet Jackie who is volunteering her time to be Community Buddy in East Staffordshire.  Jackie’s volunteering is currently centred around offering weekly, socially distanced “Walk and Talk” sessions with Social Prescribing clients. Feedback from clients and volunteer has been overwhelmingly positive with both parties reporting improved well-being and physical fitness as a result of being involved in these sessions.

Social Prescribing clients who have benefitted from this support include people who have been isolated by Covid, suffered bereavement and are suffering from anxiety and depression.
